Atlas Copco Air Intake Filters for Screw Compressors

Atlas Copco Air Intake Filters - Protect Your Compressor Element from Contamination

Atlas Copco Air Intake Filters - First Protection for Your Compressor

Atlas Copco Air Intake Filters (also called air inlet filters) are the first line of defense in protecting your compressor's internal components. These filters remove dust, dirt, and particulate contaminants from the ambient air before it enters the compressor element, preventing premature wear on rotors, bearings, and other critical components.

Using genuine Atlas Copco air intake filters ensures optimal airflow, maintains compressor efficiency, and extends the service life of your compressed air system. Regular replacement of intake filters is one of the most cost-effective preventive maintenance actions you can take.

Key Benefits

Superior Filtration

High-efficiency filter media captures particles down to 5-10 microns, protecting compressor element from abrasive wear.

Optimal Airflow

Engineered for minimal pressure drop at intake, maximizing compressor efficiency and FAD output.

Extended Element Life

Clean intake air prevents rotor coating and bearing wear, extending compressor element life by 30-50%.

High Dirt Capacity

Pleated design provides large surface area for dirt holding, enabling full 2000-4000 hour service intervals.

Perfect Fit Guarantee

OEM specification ensures proper fit in air filter housing for all GA, GX, G, and Z series compressors.

Warranty Protection

Genuine filters maintain your compressor warranty and service contract validity.

How Air Intake Filters Work

The air intake filter is installed at the compressor's air inlet, where ambient air is drawn into the compression chamber:

  1. Air Intake - The compressor creates suction, drawing ambient air through the intake filter housing.
  2. Particle Capture - As air passes through the pleated filter media, dust, dirt, and particles are trapped on the filter surface.
  3. Clean Air Flow - Filtered air continues to the compressor element for compression, free from abrasive contaminants.
  4. Pressure Monitoring - Modern compressors monitor intake pressure drop. When filter becomes clogged, a service alert is triggered.

Service Intervals

Standard service interval: 4,000 hours

However, the service interval may need to be shortened if the compressor operates in a dusty or dirty environment. Factors such as textile mills, woodworking shops, outdoor installation, or areas with high ambient dust levels can significantly reduce filter life.

Regular visual inspection and monitoring of intake pressure drop will help determine the optimal replacement interval for your specific operating conditions.

Warning Signs of Clogged Intake Filter

Replace your air intake filter immediately if you notice:

  • ⚠️ High Pressure Drop - Intake vacuum exceeds -0.2 bar (check compressor display)
  • ⚠️ Service Alert - "Replace Air Filter" warning on Elektronikon controller
  • ⚠️ Reduced Air Output - Lower FAD (Free Air Delivery) than normal
  • ⚠️ Increased Energy Consumption - Compressor works harder to draw air
  • ⚠️ Dirty Filter Element - Visual inspection shows heavy dust/debris accumulation
  • ⚠️ Service Interval Reached - Replace at recommended hours regardless of apparent condition

Compatible Compressor Models

Atlas Copco air intake filters are available for all industrial screw compressors:

  • GA Series (5-90kW) - GA, GA VSD, GA VSD+, GA FF (Full Feature)
  • GX Series (2-8kW) - GX, GX FF, GX EP, GX EP FF
  • G 2-7 Series - G 2, G 3, G 5, G 7 fixed and variable speed
  • Z Series (Oil-Free) - Z, Z VSD, Z VSD+ (for air end protection)
  • Legacy Models - Older GA, G, Z, and X series compressors

The True Cost of Delayed Filter Replacement

Skipping or delaying air intake filter replacement can lead to expensive repairs:

⚠️ Potential Damage from Clogged Filter:

  • Reduced Compressor Efficiency - Higher energy consumption (5-10% increase)
  • Rotor Wear - Abrasive particles cause premature rotor coating wear
  • Bearing Damage - Contaminated oil accelerates bearing failure
  • Oil Carry-Over - Restricted airflow increases oil consumption
  • Compressor Element Replacement - Expensive major repair required
  • Production Downtime - Unplanned shutdown costs far exceed filter price
