Atlas Copco Oil Separators - Maximum Oil Separation Efficiency
Atlas Copco Oil Separators - Clean Air, Minimal Oil Carry-Over
Atlas Copco Oil Separators (also called air/oil separator elements) are critical components in oil-injected screw compressors that separate compressor oil from compressed air before the air leaves the compressor. High-quality separation ensures clean compressed air for your application while minimizing oil consumption and preventing oil loss downstream.
Genuine Atlas Copco separator elements use advanced multi-layer fiberglass media to achieve residual oil content as low as 1-2 mg/m³. This protects your downstream equipment, air dryers, and filters while reducing oil top-up costs and environmental impact.
Key Benefits
Superior Separation
Multi-layer fiberglass media achieves residual oil content of 1-2 mg/m³, ensuring clean compressed air.
Low Pressure Drop
Optimized design minimizes pressure differential (0.2-0.3 bar), reducing energy consumption.
Extended Service Life
High-quality materials and construction enable full 4000-8000 hour service intervals.
Robust Construction
Steel reinforcement and epoxy coating prevent damage from pressure fluctuations and condensation.
Perfect Fit Guarantee
OEM specification ensures proper fit in oil separator vessel for all GA, GX, and G series.
Reduced Oil Consumption
Efficient separation minimizes oil carry-over, reducing top-up frequency and operating costs.
How Oil Separators Work
In an oil-injected screw compressor, oil is injected into the compression chamber for lubrication, cooling, and sealing. The oil-air mixture then passes through the oil separator:
- Primary Separation (Cyclonic) - The oil-air mixture enters the separator vessel tangentially, creating a cyclone effect that separates most oil by centrifugal force.
- Secondary Separation (Fiber Media) - Remaining oil aerosols pass through the separator element's fiberglass media, where oil droplets coalesce and drain back to the compressor.
- Clean Air Outlet - Separated air (with only 1-2 mg/m³ residual oil) exits the separator and flows to the aftercooler and air outlet.
- Oil Return - Separated oil collects at the bottom of the element and returns to the compressor via the oil return line and check valve.

Warning Signs of Failed Oil Separator
Replace your oil separator immediately if you notice:
- ⚠️ High Oil Consumption - Frequent oil top-up indicates excessive oil carry-over
- ⚠️ High Pressure Differential - Delta P > 0.8 bar indicates clogged separator element
- ⚠️ Oil in Downstream Piping - Oil accumulation in air receiver, dryers, or filters
- ⚠️ Poor Air Quality - Oil contamination affecting product quality or processes
- ⚠️ Separator Alarm - Modern compressors monitor separator pressure differential
- ⚠️ Service Interval Reached - Replace at recommended hours regardless of apparent condition
